We joined with people living with HIV and sector partners from across Wales to commemorate World AIDS Day in the Senedd.
The event, held ahead of World AIDS Day on December 1, was organised by Fast Track Cymru and featured keynote speeches from people living with HIV in Wales and Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Jeremy Miles MS.
At the reception, the Cabinet Secretary said that the Welsh Government was united in its support for people living with HIV but that there was more work to be done if Wales was to be successful in tackling HIV stigma and ending new cases of HIV by 2030.
The Cabinet Secretary set out a number of actions that the Welsh Government is looking to take forward to achieve its 2030 goals, including working with Terrence Higgins Trust to support the online provision of peer-support services.
Richard Angell OBE, Chief Executive at Terrence Higgins Trust said:
‘We were delighted to join with people from across the HIV sector in Wales – and importantly with people living with HIV in Wales – as we commemorated World AIDS Day in the Senedd.
‘Terrence Higgins Trust Cymru is working hard with people living with HIV and sector partners right across Wales so that we can end new HIV cases by 2030 and tackle HIV stigma head-on.
‘We welcome the admission from the Cabinet Secretary that, while progress has been made, there is still work to do to ensure that people living with HIV can live a life free of stigma and where HIV transmission is confined to the history books. That is why we are campaigning hard for the Welsh Government to deliver on their Action Plan commitment to fund national provision of peer-support in Wales.’
